Unused bacon package for Georgia Peach Brand SlicedBacon, circa 1950s. The package features an illustration of a cluster of threepeaches, printed in orange and green, with text in yellow and white that readsGeorgia Peach Brank Sliced Bacon. The text appears again below the fold, upsidedown. In smaller print, there is also text that reads Packed by Armour andCompany, Tifton, GA., Keep Refrigerated, One Pound Net Wt./Keep Refrigated,with two U.S. inspection marks. One end is folded over and has the image of thepeaches again and small text that reads Price, 1 LB. NET WT., Packed by Armourand Company, Tifton, GA. That is the only portion of the package that has beenfolded. The bacon would have been inside a plastic bag attached to or insidethis cover packaging. Armour first established a meat packing plant at Tiftonin 1919. This package came from the portfolio of Russell Poteet, a graphicdesign artist who worked for Mead Packaging in Atlanta. Though not marked, thispackage was likely made by Mead. The package (fully unfolded) measures justover 8 ½” by 15” and is in very good unused condition with only very light wearand soiling. It has a bit of a waxy surface. A nice bit of mid 20thcentury Tifton GA advertising and food history!
