1948 Bowman Movie Stars #36 Ann Blyth RC - Last Card in Set Condition Scarcity:
$75.00

The last card in the 1948 R701-9 Bowman Movie Stars set of 36 cards, this is #36, Ann Blyth, who was a major star in the 1940s and 1950s, and appeared in numerous TV shows into the 1980s.
Ann Blyth is 95 years old and became the oldest living Academy Award nominee (Best Supporting Actress, \'Mildred Pierce\', 1946) when Angela Lansbury passed away. Her final TV appearances were in episodes of \'Quincy, M.E.\' (1983), and alongside Ms Lansbury in \'Murder, She Wrote\' (1985).
This was the first cardboard appearance for Ann Blyth, making it her \'rookie card\', a term once used exclusively for sportscards but has been extended into the category of entertainers.
The 1949 R701-9 Movie Stars set is scarce in itself. This card is extremely scarce in mid to high grades. In the last 3 years on (as far back as the Terapeak research tool goes), a mere four examples of this card were sold. Three of those were in what I call \'hammered\' condition. The fourth was described as \'excellent\' but no image was available. Currently there is an SGC 50 (VG-EX 4, old holder) with two well-rounded corners. Take a look at that and compare to this one. There is also a PSA 8 available, one of two that exist, for $275.I grade the card as Excellent. Others here on would grade it higher (a recent sale of one of the \'hammered\' examples called it \'very good\'). I think the professional graders would agree with me.
As of date of listing, PSA has certified just 13 examples, with 2- PSA 8, 1-PSA 7.5, 2-PSA 7, 1-PSA 6 and 3-PSA 5. After two commons in the set with 12 submissions, the Blyth card has the fewest graded examples. The first card, which you would expect to be tough as well, has 17 graded copies. The set average is just above that, and the average for the bigger stars is about 22. This suggest that the available supply of Ann Blyth cards worthy of submission is very small.
