March 28,1941 Fort Knox GI Letter. 15 Mile March w/Full Packs. Firing Automatics on Range, KP Duty with 5 doing the work of 8, etc. 4 pages on 2 sheets.I have a series of these letters, written by Pvt. W(illiam).R(ussell) Boyd. They are all written to Mrs. Jamie H. Thomas, Ashton, Maryland and she obviously kept all of the letters. I have been attempting to figure out the relationship between the two, I thought maybe she was his sister but it appears to be a lot more complicated than that. In the letters, the rather intimate sentiments he shared with her didn\'t look like she was his sister but on the other hand he also mentioned going on dance dates, etc. while in Louisville. Appears that they were trying to keep everything quiet. Turns out that in the 1940 Census he was living as a boarder with Jamie Thomas and her husband John. Apparently Russell left to join the army in early 1941, he was 30 at the time, which seems to be a little old to be enlisting as a private almost a year before we had entered the war. Jamie and John divorced in 1946, shortly after the war was over. Jamie then married a Jack Boyd by 1950. That was not Russell because he died of a brain abscess in April 1942 while stationed in Terra Haute, Indiana. Perhaps it was a cousin, etc. of Russell\'s. I also believe Russell was married to a wife named Virginia during this time, he was married in 1935 and Virginia was listed as his wife on his death certificate. (Like I said, it\'s complicated).Letter is EX condition with normal mailing folds. Envelope has the stamp torn off. I use a poor/fair/good/very good/excellent/mint grading system and grade very conservatively (see my response). This does NOT necessarilycorrespond to the generic grading system that we must use. Shipping is $1.50 in the U.S.
