WWII era original AO American Optical Vintage Pilot Aviator Sunglasses

Includes vintage tooled leather sunglasses case from the same era

Ful - Vue stamp- Calobar lenses

In the late 1920’s - early 30’s ’s American Optical moved the temple piece from the middle of the frame to the top. This allowed peripheral vision to the side at a time when car driving was becoming more prevalent . AO called these glasses Ful-Vue. American Optical’s sales of frames doubled from 1934 to 1944..

In World War II pilots needed sunglasses which gave full vision and protection from sun’s rays at high altitudes.

Ray-Ban was founded in 1937 by Bausch & Lomb (B&L) - and then got licensing from AO to make aviator style sunglasses along with AO Ful-Vue.

This pair has the optional “General Bar”, the secondary bar sleeve made of celluloid / early plastic. Marked inside of lower bar bridge Ful Vue , AO 1/10 12KGF. 1/10 of weight gold filled.

This pair is in Excellent condition for its age, rarely used, or if so, extremely well cared for. Gold is clear and untarnished, no corrosion. The lenses are clear and bright and free from any major scuffs. The nose pads and frame, are clean, unbent, although they may need to be fitted for your head. and not previously bent.

These aviator sunglasses have covered, curved ear tips to hold the glasses securely.
