This pair is in very good condition even so when magnified small superficial scratches are seen in the very durable 12K “plating”

The lenses were also examined very carefully. Please see the many photographs and look closely. No scratches or damage can be seen on the lenses.

Look at the rest of the frame, the metal, the welds, the temple screw joints, and the celluloid parts, all look very good. Please see pictures. I will do additional photos to your instructions if requested.

With some confidence I tentatively place the creation of this fine pair of Kalichrome equipped RAY-BAN Aviators between 1938 and the early 1940’s.

Early mineral lens Ray-Ban Kalichrome sunglasses are renowned for their vision enhancing properties. Some write they are unequaled. One thing is true they create a visual experience of exceptional clarity.

They effectively filter blue light which minimizes surface reflection, reduces glare, and cuts through haze.

Designed between the wars for pilots of the new high altitude high speed aircraft. Clear vision was crucial but hard when suffering the effects of sun and atmosphere. Something had to be done.

The resulting advanced Kalichrome “yellow” glass lenses became a literal life saver in the skies, at sea, in the desert theaters and more.

An immediate military success they became an immensely popular choice when released by Bausch & Lomb to the retail consumer just before 1940.

Today they’re particularly helpful in low light and/or high glare environments. Driving at dusk, dawn or at night for example.

They also excel in the wild where vision is inhibited by mists, dust or haze.

Be aware the blue light blocking and light enhancing properties can be overwhelming in bright sunlight.

Impressed into the top of the bar is RAY-BAN and no other marks. Into the Bottom of the bar is B & L 1/10 12K GF.
