The proposed new engineers drawing shows the dam proper–8600 feet long, 150 feet high at the spillway–and part of the the 18-mile-long reservoir to be backed up by the dam. In the foreground is the Illinois Central Railroad bridge crossing the Tennessee River. Dam, for which both houses of Congress have approved a preliminary appropriation of $2,600,000, will be located near the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers, 22 miles upstream from Paducah, Kentucky. The lock portion of the dam is shown at the left. It will be 600 feet long and 110 feet wide, with a maximum lift of 68 feet. The spillway will be able to pass 960,000 cubic feet of water per second and the powerhouse will have ultimate installed capacity of 192,000 kilowatts. Photo measures 9 x 7 inches.
