- - - DESCRIPTION & CONDITION: On February 21, 1936, a lady in Washington D.C. writes to Kaufman American Antiques in South Sudbury, Massachusetts- “My dear Mr. Kaufman- In November about the 27th I sent you a photograph of my old Indian Desk and wrote you a little history about it. You have never acknowledged the same, will you please let me know on receipt of this if you received them for I feel anxious about the photograph. Please do not let anyone have it or they might attempt to make a copy of it. I felt that I could trust you in this matter is the reason I sent the photograph to you as you said you thought you could sell it for me - please write me”. On the one hand, her concern for the photograph sounds a bit paranoid; on the other, she might have been aware that in Framingham, Massachusetts, just a few miles from Sudbury, Wallace Nutting was busily making copies of antique furniture of just the sort she had sent the photo of.
