1934 R24 Goudey Gum Dick Tracy “Big Thrill” Booklet Extremely High Grade:

Incredibly crisp with perfect colors high-grade example of 1934 Goudey “Big Thrill Chewing Gum” Dick Tracy 8-page booklet. This is #3 in the set which is subtitled “Vault of Death”.

This rare Goudey nonsport issue rarely survives in such great shape. They are just very prone to damage. There is a story about this booklet that may be interesting to the buyer and to others:

Decades ago (in the 1970s!) I wound up with a small stack of 1934 Dick Tracy Goudey Big Thrill booklets. This issue actually received quite a bit of respect by advanced collectors even back then. I must have had 20 or 25 of them. By condition standards of the day, all were in approximately perfect condition! Which was EXTREMELY unusual (basically unheard of) even back then. But ALL were the same booklet! This one! Dick Tracy “Vault of Death” #3! I easily sold them all, one by one. They all must be out there somewhere! I made sure to keep a sample of the find and last year listed it . It sold immediately. I just found this one stored away in a box I had not looked at in 30 years! I saved two! This is the last one. It is a gem! (Though really they all were!)

I’m sure there’s some interesting explanation lost to time that explains how these came to survive. I don’t believe this booklet and the others I had from this unusual find were ever in packs, and were very likely taken home by an employee of Goudey or the printer to give to kids or to distribute as samples.
