1932 Vintage Press Photo by ACME.Russell Thaw, son of Evelyn Nesbit Thaw, is shown here at the National Air Races where he participated in various events as a competing pilot. It was expected that Thaw would enter the Thompson Trophy Race, the nation\'s speed classic, scheduled for Labor Day.
Russell William Thaw was an American airplane pilot. While working as the chief pilot for the Guggenheim family, he was sponsored for air races and excursions. He served during World War II in the United States Army Air Force, and later became a test pilot for the Douglas Aircraft Company in California.
