The carts came into being when a local newspaper invited the farmers of the 3 surrounding counties to get together for a rodeo that was arranged to stir up trade. The farmers wanted to go to the rodeo, but they couldn\'t buy gas to run cars into town, nor did most of them have wagons and horses or mules. So spontaneously they rigged up strange-looking vehicles. Above is one of the farmers\' \"Hoover Carts.\" Election campaign. Photo measures 10.5 x 8 inches. Photo Is dated 1932. PHOTO FRONT
