1930s CLIPS U.S. MILITARY AIRPLANES NAVY TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT AIRCRAFT CARRIER:
$8.00

This listing is for a lot of newspaper clippings from the 1930s about U.S. Navy airplanes, flights, fleets, transatlantic trip, etc. Here is a summary (NOT complete) of the clippings:

[Undated] - \"Annapolis Middies Learn to Sail the Sky, Too.\" Caption of photos reads, \"Midshipmen of U.S. Naval Academy getting their first taste of flying in a twin-motored seaplane\" and \"Students mapping out a course.\" I think this was clipped from Popular Mechanics magazine, but I\'m not sure.

May, 1930 - Photo showing the Navy\'s newest bombing planes. \"Commander Burney says will sink all merchant ships within 300 miles of the coasts.\"

December, 1933 - \"Navy Planes Roar Prelude to Hop Halfway Across Pacific.\" Describes how six Navy VP-10 flying boats will fly from a California port the following month for a 2,000 mile flight to Pearl Harbor. Contains photo of Lieutenant Commander Kneffler McGinnis, who will direct the flight.

January, 1934 - \"Navy Planes Ready to Attempt Flight to Hawaii\" - Contains two photos. One is a photo of 3 of the 6 naval aircraft that will fly from California to Hawaii, \"the longest open water mass flight ever attempted.\" The second is a photo of the six officers who will make the flight: Lt. Comm. K. McGinnis, Lt. H.J. Roberts, Lts. F.A. Davis, Lt. T.D. Guinn, Lt. J. Perry, and Lt. H.K. Averill.

January, 1934 - \"Record Ocean Hop!\" - Contains a diagram of the flight path, and a photo of rear Admiral Seller and Flight Commander McGinnis.

January, 1934 - \"Off on Perilous Hop\" and \"In the Air\" - Photo of Admiral Sellers, M. Mitscher, Lt. Comm. McGinnis, Lt. Comm. Henderson, and Lts. Perry, Davis, Averill, McRoberts and Guinn. Also contains a photo of the six planes in flight.

January, 1934 - \"Weather Fine on Final Lap of Ocean Hop\" - One lost in fog, but rejoins group soon; ships report progress; officials plan greeting for daring fliers; will set record. Contains photo of a 10-P-1, the kind of flying boat that comprises the fleet flying to Hawaii. Also contains six portrait photos of McGinnis, Perry, McRoberts, Davis, Guinn, and Averill.

January, 1934 - \"Hawaii Lauds Mass Flight\" - giant naval planes land safely after hop over Pacific. This is the LAST HALF of the article. The first part, which was apparently on Page One, is not included. Contains a photo of the six planes flying over Diamond Head, a Hawaii volcano.

May, 1934 - \"New U.S. Floating Airport to Carry 72 Planes\" - The Ranger is the first Navy craft to be designed and built expressly for carrier work. Able to carry 72 planes. Photo shows the carrier steaming by Old Point Comfort, VA, enroute to her first test before being turned over to the Navy.

August, 1934 - Photo of Chief Petty Officer Chester Beaman manning a machine gun and Lt. Carol R. Anderson handling the controls in a plane located at Great Lakes Naval Training Station.\" They were engaged in \"war games held on the lake front by 9,000 members of the 33rd Division.\"

[Undated] - \"Eyes Over the Fleet\" Photo of planes from the U.S.S. Indianapolis flying over American warships assembled at Hampton Roads, VA.

If you are a collector of historic naval aviation memorabilia, this is a must-have for your collection!

These clippings were removed from a very old scrapbook. Some of the clippings had been cut up to fit within the pages of the book. They have been reassembled, much like a jigsaw puzzle, and held together on the back with archival quality mending tissue. This is NOT Scotch tape! It contains no acid or lignin and will not cause discoloring or any other damage over time. It should not be removed.

ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES.

ALL SALES ARE FINAL, so please purchase carefully and e-mail with any questions prior to purchase.

I am listing many other items. So please check my other listings, as I will be happy to combine shipping.
