ATTENTION, Railroad Aficionados!!
This is a RARE 1927 Souvenir Program from the "Fair of the Iron Horse", an extensive word and picture commemoration of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Centenary celebration -- with histories, displays, re-enactment descriptions, pictures (and tales) of the famous and infamous, and more trains than you could shake a caboose at!
The Fair in question took place in Halethorpe, Maryland, September to October of that year. The Baltimore & Ohio was 100 years young then and was spread out over 25 acres southwest of Mount Clare Station (around the Old Main Line). The attendance during those months was pegged at over 1.25 million people for the event. Not only were there stationary exhibitions, models, and ephemera on display, but costumed actors would be seen on platforms or roaming about. Also, there was an afternoon daily pageant--moving!--showing the "progress" of transportation through the ages: Native Americans, other horseback riders, stagecoaches, Conestoga wagons, and the evolution of trains through the years. Included were not only American locomotives, but entries from Canada and Britain as well.A sight to see!
This program is complete and has NO missing pages--32 including front and back covers; these pages are not numbered in this program. It is graded in FAIR (-) condition: we present this program AS-IS. The pages are frail, there is extensive edge browning, tears, degradations especially to back cover. There is a sepia-toned quality especially to the pictorials. While closed and lying flat, there is a modest amount of "curl" to Left more than to Right edge of the program. The spine, though, excluding covers, is good(-) in condition. The program is "oversized", measuring at approximately 11 x 16 inches.
Enjoy this step back into the history and the glory of trains. Use it to for an historical display, frame it for an office or a hobby room,or complete a B & O Collection with this heart warming remembrance.
