Edwin Levick came to America in 1899 from London to work as a translator of Arabic for the Guaranty Trust Company in New York City.

He soon turned his attention to photography and was supplying his photographic services to the Chicago Tribune, the New York Times, and the New York Herald Tribune as well as Rudder and Motorboat Magazine. He began to write for newspapers and photograph for magazines of the day; he eventually decided to specialize in maritime photography. Within a few years, Levick\'s successful business had expanded having to employing seven assistants, including Morris Rosenfeld, who would later gain a reputation as a premier maritime photographer in his own right.

In 1929, Levick died at his home in New Rochelle, New York, at the peak of his career at the age of 61. The New Rochelle Standard declared he was the \"best known maritime photographer in the nation.... a genuinely artistic soul.\" He had lived in New Rochelle for the past fifteen years and was a member of the New Rochelle Yacht Club.

Resolutewas the last Cup defender to be designed by Herreshoff.

Resolutewas christened byGrace Vanderbiltand launched on April 25, 1914. In the1914 America\'s Cupdefender selection trials, skippered byCharles Francis Adams III, she beatVanitieandDefiance.In so doing, she beat theAmerica\'s Cupcourse record offSandy Hookby sailing 30 miles in 3:16:41.However, the outbreak ofWorld War Icaused the America\'s Cup races for 1914 to be postponed.The race was finally held during the1920 America\'s Cup.

In 1920 the America\'s Cup was reconvened andResoluteagain prevailed in selection races before successfully defending the Cup in July, once more with Adams at the helm.Resolutelost the first two matches before recovering to defend the cup 3-2 againstShamrock IV.Robert Wales Emmons, Jr.was the manager of the yacht in 1920.

In 1925Resolutewas sold toE. Walter ClarkofPhiladelphia.Her racing career lasted another ten years, and in 1930Resoluteagain participated in the America\'s cup selection races, albeit as a \"trial horse\" against which the potential defenders could be judged.

Robert F Kennedy named hisWianno SeniorResolute in 1964, after the America\'s Cup yacht.

Vanitiewas a yacht owned byAlexander Smith Cochranthat was selected to take part in selection trials for theAmerica\'s Cupin 1914 againstSir Thomas Lipton\'s yachtShamrock IV.

On June 17, 1914William S. Denniswas replaced byHarry Haff, son ofHank Haffas the captain of the yacht.Vanitielost toResolutein the 1914 trials.Defense of the cup was put off duringWorld War I. The 1920 campaign was not successful andVanitielost 7–4 in the final selection series,again againstResolutewhich went on to successfully defend the America\'s Cup on behalf of theNew York Yacht Club.
