East Side school boys learn farming at Seward Park. New York..In Seward Park, in the Lower East Side, a series of little farms are springing up. School boys of the East Side, unlearned in the ways of farming, are being taught to cultivate the ground and to attend the harvesting of their little crops of vegetables. The plan was arranged through the Department of Parks of New York and the Educational Alliance. A model tool house has been set up in the park and the boys are taught the proper use of each farming implement. Because of the lateness of the season, only late crops will be planted, but it is expected that next year an early start will be made. Many homes in the East Side will thus be provided with fresh grown vegetables. Photo shows a group of the boys working their little farms in Seward Park.Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
