1920 Our Choice Cox Roosevelt Jugate Solid Back Prez Campaign Watch Fob Silver:
$98.00

This is a metal watch fob of the solid-backed variety, not the shell back type. (Those are our items 305580481611 which matches this one, and 276010615804 which has Harding and Coolidge on it).
The solid backed versions are a bit harder to find, with this one being 1 5/8\" inch high x 1.5\" inch wide with a 4\" x .5\", original leather strap. It\'s from when democrat candidates, Ohio newspaper magnate, James Cox ran with the young Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had been Assistant Secretary of the Navy in the Woodrow Wilson Administration during World War I. (This was the same job his uncle, Theodore Roosevelt, had held going into the Spanish American War, before he quit to form his Rough Rider volunteer unit.)
Cox was soundly defeated by Ohio U.S. Senator, Warren Harding and his running mate, former Massachusetts governor, Calvin Coolidge. Harding was the publisher of his hometown Marion Star newspaper, so not only was this electionone of the few times in American history that two men from the same state ran against each other, but what were the odds they had the same publishing profession?
Harding died in office in August 1923 while on his west coast tour and Coolidge became president, sworn in by his Justice of the Peace father in the middle of the night. Cal was then elected on his own right the following year.
And, of course, FDR was stricken with polio shortly after this election, climbing back into politics after a tough recovery by becoming Governor of New York in 1928 and being elected president a total of four times. But he, too, died in office shortly after his fourth inauguration. This is in silver coloration which harkens back to the 1896 and 1900 elections when the democrat candidate, William Jennings Bryan was for the Silver Standard monetary policy while the democrat, William McKinley espoused the Gold Standard. And anyone who collects political stuff knows that Cox-Roosevelt jugate material is highly desired and tough to find.
This is in nice shape with typical wear since it\'s 100+ years old, so please look at our images to judge condition yourself so that you can be happy with your purchase. Shipping on it will be $5.50 carefully packed with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence.
