Original RPPC (real photo post card) showing members of the Italian Calvary. The photo shows many soldiers on horseback as well as a quantity of soldiers standing around. There are many spectators on the sidewalks. Many businesses line the street & there is a dentist office advertised on the balcony of one of the buildings. The post card has a divided back. The back has an inked notation \"Italian Calvary at rest after passing stand June 1-1919\". The name \"Fuime\" is inked on the front top left corner of the card. In a quick internet search, we see that Fiume has a complex history.
The city of Fiume was occupied mostly by Italians in the nineteenth century. The Free State of Fiume was an independent free state that included the city of Fiume and areas to the north and existed between 1920 and 1924. Since World War II the city that was Fiume is the present day city of Rijeka in Croatia.The card measures 5 7/16 inches by 3 7/16 inches. This is a sharp black & white photo with superb detail. There is slight wear at the corners & edges. There are no creases & no bends.
