Vera Caralli
Vera Caralli is an outstanding ballerina of the Imperial Theatres, silent film star, ballet teacher, lover of Leonid Sobinov and Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich. In 1918 she left her homeland. Only a few retained the memory of her. But it was Vera Caralli who opened Diaghilev’s famous “Russian Seasons” in Paris on May 19, 1909.Caralli danced all the leading roles at the Bolshoi Theater.She broke the heart of the main Moscow ballet reformer Alexander Gorsky.She appeared in "Russian Seasons" ("Pavilion of Armida", "Tamara") - mainly as an external imitation of Diaghilev's prima Karsavina. But Karsavina did not gain fame.In 1914, the ballerina met Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich, the emperor’s nephew, who became her patron.
