This great Vintage Style World War 1 Poster, by the popular artist Fred Spear, shows a drowned mother holding her infant - both victims of the Sinking of the Lusitania. On May 7, 1915 the Lusitania was torpedoed by a German U-Boat, the U-20. It sank within 18 minutes, eight miles off the coast of Ireland, killing 1,201 of the 1,959 people aboard. This poster was inspired by a news report from Cork, Ireland that described, among recovered bodies, \"a mother with a three-month old child clasped tightly in her arms. Her face wears a half smile. Her baby\'s head rests against her breast.
