Nice lot of 3 Harvard Crimson vintage sports memorabilia items:
1. Original very rare team photo postcard of the 1905 Harvard Crimson football team, featuring small mugshots of the starting eleven players. The 1905 squad started with eight straight wins but ended with a loss, a tie and a 6-0 loss to Yale finish with an 8-2-1 record and a point differential of 147-41. These postcards apparently were sold as stadium souvenirs as the month of Nov. is preprinted, and the date and score of the game was written in pencil by the sender, Henry Stephens III. Has heavy corner wear, a small stain in the upper right corner and a couple surface creases on the back but no holes or tears. Postmarked in Boston the day of the game with recipient's address written in dark fountain pen.
2. Original color postcard from 1909 or earlier showing Harvard Stadium, which when built in 1903 became the country's first concrete football stadium and first college athletics stadium. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987. This stadium's fixed width also hastened the use of the forward pass, which obviously saved the game of football. Has moderate to heavy wear including rounded corners, a couple heavy creases, a surface tear on the back from tape removal. Postmarked Jun 24, 1909 in Framingham (stamp intact).
3. ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC 1903 Harvard Athletic Association receipt for the Crimson track and field team that may have served as a season ticket. Measures about 3 by 5 inches and dated March 9, 1903. The back is blank; the name Mr. Stevens is written on the front with the signature of the team treasurer. Yellowed with one vertical crease down the center, overall in excellent condition.
