1904 Washington University Huskies Football Team Cabinet Card 2 MLB Brinker Shaw:
$800.00

1904 Washington University Huskies team football cabinet card. Taken at the Delles Oregon by Burns. According to the previous sellers research, Burns was a traveling photographer at the time of this image. Burns’ previous studio burned down. No pun intended. I’m not sure of the significance of the location. There are two MLB baseball players in the image. Bill Brinker is front left. Hunky Shaw is front right. Hunky was given the nickname by Bill Brinker. Hunky was the first MLB player born and n Washington. I recently listed this and botched the id on one of the two. I can’t remember. I also had only made the id of McElmon besides the MLB players. The lone varsity sweater belongs to Fred McElmon. Michigan University Alum James Knight is in the suit. The first side by side comparison is of an image of Knight from 1905. I hadn’t seen the 1903 team image that is posted online when I previously made the listing. About half of the players are easily identified from the 1902 and 1903 images. This is no doubt a 1904 Huskies team image. When the item was listed previously, I was challenged by a few claiming to be authorities on Huskies history and claimed I was mistaken. At the time it had been awhile after I did the research on the item. The info wasn’t fresh on my mind. The “authority” was cordial and I was cordial back. I informed the “authority” I would put it back in the “working on it pile.” While the Huskies “authorities” likely felt a power rush after their dethroning of the item, simply put I’m back. Card is about 10 by 12 inch in size. Stains, toning and wear. Chipped corner. Heavy crease opposite bottom side of the cabinet. Marked in pen on the back. Feel free to ask questions. I look forward to hearing from the “authorities.” I don’t know if or the quality of the facial recognition department at Washington U. Our Michigan State is top 10 in the nation. We are no strangers to the science here. For you Huskies “authorities,” one of the keys to facial recognition is the ears. Follow the ears in my side by sides. Pass that info to the Huskies professors. On the house. Feel free to ask questions.
