Circa 1904 “Equality” related knife with celluloid handle featuring portraits of Teddy Roosevelt, Booker T. Washington, and Abraham Lincoln. This is an amazing item and INCREDIBLY RARE.

In fact, it may be the only example known.

Unfortunately it is in terrible condition. In the pictures here I have displayed all the separate parts (which due to condition unfortunately is possible to do!) but they can easily be re-assembled into proper place and the important portraits handle can be displayed to great advantage. If you want to use this as a knife, this item is not for you! I wish it was in perfect shape, but this is how it was when I bought it countless years ago (I am almost certain from legendary dealer Rex Stark).

I appreciate items in excellent condition as much as the next collector but made an exception for this item due to its extreme rarity and significance. The appearance of Roosevelt and Booker T Washington and Lincoln obviously refer to the famous TR-Booker T. Washington dinner at the White House in 1901, The “Equality” items related to this dinner are among the most prized in political and civil rights collecting. Most of these items are celluloid pins (there are a number of different varieties, all classics) and there is also the famous print featuring TR and Booker T.

This knife is an extreme rarity. I have never seen another example. There are so few “Equality” items from the 1904 era and as a highly collected area they tend to be very expensive (all of the pins aa well as the print are each thousands of dollars). The condition keeps the value of this knife down but it would still look great in a Riker Mount and be a welcome addition to someone’s collection. It’s not every day one sees an Equality celluloid portrait item that is not thousands of dollars, let alone one that is rarer than all others. This is an unusual true rarity in terrible shape but still a very interesting item with great merit.
