This listing is for an original 1899 anti-semitic poster from theMusée Des Horreurs series of posters made in Franceby an artist using the pseudonym V. Lenepveu and featuringcaricatures of various individuals involved in the Dreyfus Affair in France.
This hand colored poster is titled \"Le Traître\" or in English \"The Traitor\" and is No 6 in the series. This poster pictures Alfred Dreyfus, a Jew and captain in the French army, as a hydra, a mythical creature with multiple heads and when one head is cut off another appears. For 51 weeks, a different poster was printed until the French government put a stop to them.He was falsely convicted of treason, tortured, and exiled for allegedly selling French military intelligence to the Germans in 1895. In 1906, an appeals court pronounced Dreyfus\' innocence and he was re-instated in the army and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
Copies of this poster appear in several museums including in the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Jewish Museum in New York City, and the Museum of Jewish History and Art in Paris.

[link removed by ]Measures approximately 19 5/8\" x 25 3/4\". As can be seen in the photos there are several small tears and wear around the edges. There is also a crease line across the poster. These posters were printed on very thin paper.
