This Tobacco card (also referredto as a Cigarette Card was issued by the ALLEN and GINTER. Tobacco Co. or RichmondVirginia as an insert premium in their brands of Tobacco and Cigarettes during1886. These cards are from a series of 50 cards entitled,“ NATIVES IN COSTUME ” , and are designatedas series N16 in Burdick ’s AmericanCard Catalogue ACC . This is one ofAllen & Ginter’s earliest issues andone of the Scarcest of their cards to come by.The front of the card features an image of a person dressed in the Traditional Outfit of their native land,set against a metallic gold/brass coloredbackground, with Advertising for Allen& Ginter. The back features a listof the 50 cards in the series . The Lithography for the card is exceptionalwith the images appearing particularly striking against the near reflectivemetallic background.. This card features Abyssinia. The Cardmeasures 2 ¾ inches by 1 ½ inches approximately. The card does have some printloss and bubbling to the front, but is free from creases.I have scanned the cardsfairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself. Don'tmiss out on this over 135 year old card (a true AMERICAN antique). Theydon't come up on e-bay too often.
