November 1883 stereoview photograph. This view which was taken by William L. Gill of Lancaster, Pennsylvania & is from the \"Tourist and Artist Series Lancaster City & County Views\". This circa 1883 card is as issued with a rounded corners matt. This view is in the large format & measures 6 7/8 inches by 3 15/16 inches. The front has an inked inscription on the bottom of the matt: \"Burnt Cabin Looking from the west & Snowy Morning 1 Nov. 1883.\" There is an inked inscription on the back which reads: \"Salmon Creek Forest Co. Pa.\"
Gill is well known for his photographic work during the Civil War. This is a rare scenic stereoview dated Nov. 1883 by William L. Gill who was a significant Lancaster, Pa. photographer. We have lived near Lancaster, Pa. for over 40 years & we have only personally seen a total of a small handful of stereoviews which were taken by Gill. After 40+ years of looking right in the heart of his area this certainly attests to the rarity of his scenic stereoview work. There is very slight wear at the corners. Otherwise, the card is excellent.Please examine the photos closely and purchase based on your own judgement as to condition and value.
