1880's Dobbin's Electric Soap Numbered Set Victorian Trade Cards (Card No. 6) History / Background:Isaiah L. Cragin & Company were soap manufacturers, established in 1867. Dobbins Electric Soap was a laundry soap named after John B. Dobbins of Philadelphia, who first manufactured it, using a formula obtained from a Frenchman. The "electric" in the soap's name made use of the popular interest in the mysteries and powers of electricity and implied that the soap was powerful and fast. After Cragin purchased Dobbins' rights the soap was advertised widely. It apparently had a high ph (alkalinity) to give it "sting". Original old Victorian style portait trade card - 1800s advertising - rare!! *See pictures for condition, sold "as is".*
