This fantasticcard was issued by the THOMAS H.HALL Tobacco Co. as an insert premium intheir brands of BETWEEN The ACTS and BRAVO Tobacco and Cigarettes starting in 1880 andrunning through to 1892. These cards are from a scarce series of over 500 cards entitled, “Actors, Actresses, Athletes, and Presidential Candidates” Theseries is listed as series N342 inBurdick’s American Card Catalogue. Burdick also broke the series down intoseveral sub-series based on thedifferent design variations to the cards.This is from the N342 Type 1 Cardsfrom the N342 series are consideredto be the earliest cards issued withtobacco and cigarettes. The front of the card features a Victorian TheaterActress images in an oval with a decorative border featuring the Actresses nameand advertising for Between the Acts Cigarettes. The back of the card also features advertising for HallCigarettes. This card features LABLANCHE DAVENPORT . TheLithography for the card was done by Heppenheimer and Maurer of New York. The Card measures 3 1/16 inches by 1 5/8inches approximately. The card does have some corner and edge wear,and some areas of discoloration. . Ihave scanned the card fairly largefor you to be able to judge condition for yourself.
