Bond and Warrant 1880 between John Fries and John Boggs to Daniel Sharp and William O. Garrison.
Handwritten note: \"Dear Sir Many thanks for the check. I hope I may be situate to do you a favor sometime. I am using so much money in my oyster business that it cramps me terribly. I have planted 11,000 bushels of Chesapeakes and this with crew wages for 4 boats of over $500 per month takes money. Bonds are not recorded so all you have to do with this is to destroy it again accept thanks. I think I shall be at your place sometime soon. Yours truly Daniel Sharp.\"
Information found on the internet re Daniel Sharp:

Upon reaching the age of 18, Daniel commenced to teaching children in the public schools. After 7 years in the schoolroom, he struck out for a nautical life of which he became the captain of his vessel in only 5 years. He returned to life on the land and became the principal of the local public school.

On 8 Dec 1858, he married Mary, daughter of Charles Compton of Mauricetown. Their children are:

  • Lucy B., d. 1881
  • Barton F.
  • C. Compton
  • Walter
  • Daniel, Jr.
  • Mary \"Mamie\"

In 1872, Daniel was elected Clerk of Cumberland County and served 2 terms of 5 years each. He also farmed oysters and had extensive oyster beds in Maurice River Cove as well as in Cape May County. He served as director of the Cumberland and Maurice River Railroad and was an active Mason becoming Master of the Evening Star Lodge, No. 97, of Bridgeton.

His wife Mary died in 1880. He in 1893.
