January 1, 1866 Billhead from George Lucy Hack and Livery Stable, at #7 Essex Street in Newburyport Massachusetts. The beautiful Essex Street Inn is located at this address today.This monthly bill, for October and November, was to Captain William Graves (Graves Jr.), for use of a coach on multiple occasions, as well as a horse and buggy. Captain William Graves Jr., like his father, was a captain on numerous ships. He traveled on his father\'s ships as a boy and young man, and by 1834, was Captain of ships traveling to Canton China. After over a decade of continuous sailing to and from China, he was financially set and retired from the sea at age 37. In 1847, he opened an office with a partner, at 8 Ferry Wharf, and purchased interests in several ships. Captain Graves also served as City Alderman and Mayor of Newburyport, President of the Newburyport Marine Society, President of Bartlett Steam Mills, and Director of the Merchant\'s National Bank. He died on September 1, 1877.
