1864 CDV YOUNG WOMAN; STAMPED; HANDWRITTEN MSG; E. R. Gard, Photog - Chicago IL. Good condition - see pix; 2 cent stamped; likely taken Aug-Dec 1864; handwritten message \"To Aunt Clara from Nettie with love\". Likely taken between Aug-Dec in 1864 due to some characteristics of the card, as well some of the photographer, his business, and location at the time. Most of Emery R. Gard\'s prior photo studios started in the mid-1850\'s in Indianapolis, Ohio & Kentucky, then moving to Chicago, IL in 1863. His short time in IL was only part of 1863 & thought to be through part of 1866, though there has been difficulty confirming close & his whereabouts after. The stamp timing & other characteristic timing overlap however is what points to 1864 (stamps started in August). While they were photo sale, again, among other things, he had not been there long enough that the picture could\'ve been taken there years before that & just stamped later. So late 1864 is the most agreed upon timeframe. Definitely Civil War era! And he does have some much-admired building/landscape photos still on display in the other state museums etc..
