Counter:THIS SAMUEL HART ARTIFACT SHOWCASES THE SALADEE PATENT ON THIS INCREDIBLY RARE COUNTER.

INFO: THIS WAS ISSUED ON FEBRUARY 9, 1864 TO CYRUS W. SALADEE OF PADUCAH, KY UNDER PATENT NUMBER 41,587.

Significance : THIS SINGLE BAZIQUE COUNTER HAS AN HISTORIC PART AS BEING KNOWN TO BE THE FIRST ISSUE RELEASE FOR THE GROUNDBREAKING AMERICAN DECK APPEARING WITH INDICES IN THE CORNERS.

\"Saladee\'s Patent\" is the name given to a historic deck of cards made by Samuel Hart in 1864 – promoted as a breakthrough deck that offered people an American-made product and perhaps the first made anywhere, with corner indices.

The name of the Patent Holder, Saladee, is prominently displayed on the Bottom of the 3 wheel counter and also the name was on the A/S of the expensive deck known as \"Saladee\'s Patent.\" NY44

This incredible 1864, Samuel Hart made, Saladee patented, bezique counter or scoring device is spelled \"Bazique Register.\" [This spelling was common on this first of its kind artifact which was spelled with an \"a\" instead of an \"e\"].

The \"Register\" consists of three wheels with metal arrows, much like British bezique scorers. In incredible condition, intact with light Foxing, otherwise in historic quality, intact movable value dials, very slight surface age toned, overall in highly acceptable condition. Gorgeous floral back pattern.

While earlier cards did not have a standard design, current decks are designed with the value of each card imprinted at the corners. This design allowed the players to hold their deck of cards in one hand in a fan-like shape, with the value of each card exposed.

This first Anglo-American counter with Saladee’s Patent,having been printed in 1864 may be rich in history, However, the design was actually patented in 1875 by the Consolidated Card Company.
