This is an original press photo. One of P.T. Barnum\'s greatest publicity stunts: The marriage of Tom Thumb.Actually, it was a real love match, but Barnum couldn\'t resist \"cashing in\" on the excellent publicity possibilities. Marriage took place at Grace church, New York, February 10, 1863.Tom was 25, had been exhibited since he was 5. The bride was 22, had taught school in Middleboro, Massachusetts, until she married Thumb. They were each 3 feet in height at time of marriage, are pictured above in center.They were exhibited all over the world until Thumb\'s death in 1883, lived in luxury, met royalty. Mrs. Thumb died in 1919. The best man and bridesmaid at wedding were Commodore Nutt and Minnie Warren, sister of the bride.Nutt proposed to Minnie but she wouldn\'t marry him because he was given to dissipation. She later married, died as result of her first childbirth.Parents of the quartet above were normal sized persons. Barnum paid Nutt\'s father $30,000 for right to exhibit the \"Commodore.\" Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo is dated 02-10-1863.
