Manuscript ALS on paper bearing Bedford Hotel embossed letterhead; in excellent shape, no edge wear or staining; previous fold lines; very good condition.
Short ALS from Mark Lemon to Charles Manby, a British civil engineer who worked on the Suez Canal project. The letter reads:
\"My dear Manby,
I am staying here with my \'pips\' for a few days & I want you to grant me an audience at your convenience. It is nothing that will bore you. All good New Years wishes. Yours Sincerely always, Mark Lemon.\"
Mark Lemon (1809-1870) was the founder and editor of British magazines Punch and The Field, which specialized in satire and field sports respectively. He also wrote plays and verse; more than sixty of his comedies, melodramas and other works were produced in London. Lemon was a skilled actor, lecturer, and impersonator of Shakespearean characters. He wrote prolifically, contributing to several magazines and newspapers and producing over a hundred songs and several novels. Very Good.
