1860’s to 1870’s Dick Higham cdv. Dick was the first and only banned MLB umpire. A descendant of Dick’s wrote an account for the famous baseball non profit about his quest in properly identifying possible images of his ancestor. The article was written in 2002. Higham’s relative passed away in 2017. In the image identification quest, the author quickly realized a photographer was the proper expert to contact on facial recognition(I don’t believe “facial recognition” was much of a coined phrase in 2002)). If the author were alive, I would pay anything to know of his dealings with his peers at the nonprofit. The man who runs the photo division at the non profit does very flawed work. When addressing him, he tries to force you to use medical jargain. He thinks medicine is the approach to facial recognition. It’s very much math buddy. Doctors are not anywhere near the top of expertise facial recognition in 2D images. I don’t know what that guy at that non profit does for a living, but what he’s doing to baseball history is criminal. The relative of Higham was very methodical and precise. His quest took place before technology would have been up to par enough to help much I imagine. Much respect. I have dealt with relatives. Sales and confrontations. Sometimes it’s a matter of recognizing the last name on the receipt. Sometimes a reach out after the purchase. I have also dealt with relatives who believe I’m mistaken. I always go back and put in extra work out of respect. If I’m wrong, I take it down. If I’m right, I stand by my listings. I can think of one listing I was contacted on by a relative that was removed. It was a grainy U of M uniformed baseball player that was about one inch by one inch. I apologized and told the family if I get one of him, it’s on the house. If there is a direct descendant of the non profit author(and can prove it), contact me and this card is on the house. I do also get contacted by the relatives who make proclamations as if being related to a ball player makes them royalty who has the ultimate say in something that has to do with someone that never they met in their lives like the rest of the world. Facial recognition is math at the end of the day, not feelings. About 2 by 4 inch in size. Stains, toning and wear.
