1852 Winfield Scott William Graham Whig Party Presidential Campaign Token:
$68.00

General Winfield Scott was one of the most famous commanders during the Mexican American War, so got nominated by the Whig Party as their presidential candidate in 1852. He followed William Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor as popular military leaders run by that party for the top job. We\'ve listed a second example of Scott\'s campaign tokens as well.
However, unlike them, he didn\'t win that year, and actually got really creamed at the polls. One of his subordinates, democrat General Franklin Pierce, beat Scott and his running mate, Secretary of the Navy, William Graham, so soundly that they won by the largest Electoral College margin since James Monroe\'s uncontested second term. And then in just four years, Pierce became so unpopular as president that his party refused to renominate him for re-election in 1856. His replacement, James Buchanan, also won and became so unpopular that he was not renominated. Which just might happen again for one of the few times in U.S. history with offeren. And that will be quite amusing and very interesting to watch this summer.
