This issue also containsads for the transportation of Americans to California to join the California Gold Rush.

This essay is in reality a pre-1865 versionof the famous (and often quoted)Horace Greeley saying: \"GoWest Young Man, Go West\".

\"Go West, young man\" is a phrase, the origin of which is often credited to the American author and newspaper editor Horace Greeley concerning America\'s expansion westward, related to the concept of Manifest destiny. No one has yet proven who first used this phrase in print.

Examining Horace Greeley\'s writings indicates that that famous saying (attributed to Horace Greelen in the NY Tribune dated July 13, 1865) does not appear in the July 13, 1865 issue of the Tribune: The Tribune of that date does contain the \"The Homestead Law\" article (page 4 column 4) where Greeley mentioned that \"... We earnestly urge upon all such to turn their faces Westward and colonize the public lands ... \".

Thus this 1865 Nantucket newspaper essay encouraging americans going west precedes the Greeley saying by 16 years !!
