NOTES TAPED ON HANDLE SAY:

\"ADZ, made by L&I. WHITE, BUFFALO in 1837 belonged to Wm. DANIEL CASHION great grandfather of Med Cashion, and used to shape logs into heavy beams, the octagonal nose used to drive wooden pegs into bored holes to hold beams together.\"

\"Note fine, homemade hickory helve from 2nd. growth, wellcured sapling. Not straight but with proper bow so much approved by Scotchmen. A sliver of glass often was used to serape smooth, then hand-rubbed

HANGING NOTE SAYS:

\"This old hickory handled ADZ belonged to great grandfather Wm. Daniel Cashion, son of great, great grandfather John Beal Cashion, the latter moving to Perry County,Mo. from Lincoln Co. North Car. in 1826 or there abouts. The adz used to square up logs work with logs and timber

ENGRAVEMENT ON THE AXE HEAD SAYS:
\"ADZ BELONGS TO ARCH HAGER CAHION 1859\"

There is also a SS number I\'ll not mention.

This antique axe is an estate sale find. It\'s very old and in very nice antique condition. I listed the axe\'s age from 1837 but the engravement on the axe says 1859 Arch Hager Cashion. we\'re thinking that was when Arch acquired the axe but was made in 1837. The current family fixed the hook you see in the last picture to hang it.
