1830 Suffolk Co., Parish of Cutchogue, Southold Deed. Hallock, Payne and Hart:
$1400.00

This is a very significant document from Suffolk County in New York. It is further identifies a 14 3/4 acre parcel in the Parish of Cutchogue in the town of Southold. This document also has ties to significant families in Suffolk County. Erastus Hallock was a descendant of Peter Hallock, one of the ORIGINAL settlers in that area. Erastus Hallock married Beulah Payne (also known as Paine in some references) in 1815. This property was sold to Rensselear Hart.
I like to do a lot of research on items like this, and want to include as much information as I can in my listings... so this is the description of the property being sold as noted on the document. You can read the printed portion of the document clearly
\" that certain piece or parcel of land situate in the Parish of Cutchogue in the town of Southold aforesaid and containing by measurement fourteen and three quarter acres and bounded as follows. Northerly by the lands of Isaac Overton, Easterly partly by the lands of Matthias H. Davids and partly by the lands of James Horton. Southerly partly by the lands of James Horton and partly by the lands of Calvin Horton. Westerly by the lands of John Woodhull also a cart way from the Post Road to said lot of land.\"
It\'s possible that I\'ve made an error or two, especially on names, but if you know the area and history, you\'ll figure if I\'m wrong.
As Erastus and Beulah both signed the document, there is a section where it is noted that \"said Beulah bring by me privately ______ apart from her said husband acknowledged that she executed the same voluntarily without any fear or ______ of her said husband\"
So Beulah was examined separately to make sure she was signing this document under no duress. Interesting.
I am guessing that this statement was made in the presence of Benjamin Case, Commissioner.
This 13\" x 15 3/4\" document is in amazing condition for its age. There are a couple of very small holes at some folds, and minor tears on edges. The document has been well cared for, and will be a FANTASTIC item to be displayed in a property that was once part of this parcel. And, as the 14 3/4 acres is a sizable piece that has been divided up many times over the years, I\'m certain that more than one of the historian in Suffolk County will be able to clearly identify the exact location, and overlay it on a current map.
A significant early piece from a VERY PROMINENT Long Island family. The Hallock and Payne (Paine) names are will known in the area, and genealogies exist that help in discovery.
Not an inexpensive document, but a VERY RARE one. It\'s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a piece that I\'m sure will be desired by many people in Suffolk County.
This will be shipped in a hard mailer, folded once (as I acquired it)
