Letter datelined \"Geo Town 15 May 1807\" signed byBenjamin Stoddert just after ending his term as 1st Secretary of the US Navy (he served from 1798 to 1801). The letter appears to have been folded and hand carried. \"To Gen Mason\" is written on the reverse. Well-pressed folds. This was once bound in a book - perhaps a minute book of corporate minutes: \"41\" is written in the top right of the obverse like a page number.
Binding glue along the left edge. Minor edge wear.
Content relates to depositions and collections of money, referencing accounts and \"Geo. Harrison of Phila.\"
