Jacquard Eagle Coverlet 1868 JD Wieand Allentown - Jonathan D. Wieand (1827-1884), a weaver in Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
Coverlet made by Jonathan D. Wieand [Weand] (1827-1884), a weaver in Allentown, Lehigh County. His brother Charles D. Weand made coverlets some years earlier.
This jacquard coverlet was woven full-width using bleached cotton and red, green and blue wool. The designs are eagles, floral, suns, leaves and stars. There is 3.00" long applied wool fringe attached to the right, left and bottom edges. In each of the lower corners there is a 9.75" x 8.00" cornerstone which both read "MADE BY J.D.WIEAND ALLENTOWN 1868 P" (the letter "P" is flanked by three little cross designs).
There are a few small spots around the edge that the fringe is separated from the coverlet and there is some normal wear from age and use. Overall the condition is very nice considering it is 150+ years old. I did not have it cleaned but you may wish to have it professionally cleaned once you acquire it. I can take a detailed video if you are interested in seeing exact condition before purchase.
