Incredible piece recent estate find from a wealthy individual who had a fairly large collection of Chinese antiques. This thangka dates to the 17th century and is in overall great condition for its age. The brocade likely dates earlier and is made of fine silk. Overall the brocade does have rips/tears (pictured) but displays well. The thangka itself does have a small tear towards the center (also pictured) but displays well also. What sets this piece apart from others is the unique style of how the front is displayed similar to a storyboard. I’ve yet to find any other examples like this. The pictures depict the life of shakyamuni budha. On the back there is a large amount of Tibetan text. This piece has black areas throughout indicating the oily smoke that would be present setting this apart as a piece that was used vs a tourist piece. Open to serious offers and will be listing similar items in the near future.
