1797 writ of certiorari manuscript from Berks County, Pennsylvania between John Armstrong and Joseph Mulheron. Argued before Jacob Rush, the brother of Founding Father and Dickinson College founder Benjamin Rush. Approximately 7.75” x 12.5”. Originally folded single sheet of paper.

In fair condition, with tears and tape affixed to some folds at rear. Writing remains pronounced and visible. Light rubbing and wear along edges and corners.  General age-related toning to pages, along with some scuffing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing.

A scarce piece concerning a dispute between John Armstrong and Joseph Mulheron before Jacob Rush. The document was endorsed by Thomas Boone (born 1759), cousin of American frontiersman Daniel Boone (1734-1820), who was born in the Oley Valley in Berks County. A photograph of the Boone family tree and its connections is included at the end of the collection of photographs above. Jacob Rush (1746-1820) was a veteran of the Revolutionary War who was later appointed to the Pennsylvania High Court of Errors and Appeals by Pennsylvania President John Dickinson, where he remained following reorganization and reappointment by Governor Thomas Mifflin.
