This 5" x 6" multicolor silk rosette features embroidery that reads "ARD Cruger Burke". Enclosed in a custom brass frame, the back is engraved with the description: "Badges worn by supporters of Cruger and Burke during their election to the British Parliament under the reign of Geo. III between 1774 and 1784". Henry Cruger, Jr., an opponent of the Stamp Act of 1776, had strong connections to the colonies, particularly through his father who was a member of the New York assembly and city council. Representing Bristol, he was associated with the philosopher Edmund Burke, known as the founding figure of conservatism.
