LOT-PM144. For your consideration is an exceedingly rare and historically important original antique c.1585 Royal Wax Seal of Duke HERZOG of House of Württemberg. Original royal red wax seal is affixed to a piece of period 1500's fabric. Modern inscription on verso in pen ink for identification by previous collector. Royal seal measures approximately 2.0" in diameter, not including fabric. Wax seal impression is original. Museum quality. Guaranteed authentic.

Friedrich I of Württemberg (19 August 1557 – 29 January 1608) was the son of George of Mömpelgard and his wife Barbara of Hesse, daughter of Philip I, Landgrave of Hesse.

Herzog (female Herzogin) is a German hereditary title held by one who rules a territorial duchy, exercises feudal authority over an estate called a duchy, or possesses a right by law or tradition to be referred to by the ducal title. The word is usually translated by the English duke and the Latin dux. Generally, a Herzog ranks below a king and above a count. Whether the title is deemed higher or lower than titles translated into English as "prince" (Fürst) has depended upon the language, country, and era in which the titles coexisted.
