Tyrone Brunson was an American singer and musician who played the bass guitar.One of his most successful singles was an electro-funk instrumental titled "The Smurf" (1982). “The Smurf” was written by Otis Redding III. It reached #14 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1983. There were other Smurf kids themed records that had charted in prior years, the highest reaching #19 in 1978. However because an R&B artist hit #14 in 1982 with an instrumental song that was named after a dance, that was named after a character, that was owned by a Belgian company.... Tyrone (CBS Records) was sued for copyright infringement.The label settlement in 1982 was pulling the promotion and production of the record.It has recently become available on streaming platforms.
