WINDSOR ARENA & DETROIT'S TIGER STADIUM

Windsor Arena, affectionately known as "The Barn," was a historic sports venue located in Windsor, Ontario. Opened in 1925, it served as the primary hockey arena in the city for many decades. With a seating capacity of around 4,400, Windsor Arena offered an intimate and often boisterous atmosphere, making it a beloved local landmark. The arena was home to several hockey teams over its long history, most notably the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The Spitfires played at Windsor Arena from their inception in 1975 until they moved to the modern WFCU Centre in 2008. The arena also hosted other minor league teams, including the Windsor Bulldogs and the Windsor Royals.

Windsor Arena was not only a hub for competitive hockey but also a community center where local events, concerts, and public skating sessions took place. Its aging structure and limited amenities eventually necessitated the transition to a newer facility, but many fondly remember the old barn for its unique character and the role it played in Windsor's sports culture.

Across the Detroit River, in Detroit, Michigan, stood the iconic Tiger Stadium, another historic sports venue with a rich legacy. Opened in 1912 as Navin Field and later renamed Briggs Stadium before becoming Tiger Stadium, it was the home of the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball until 1999. With its distinctive double-decker grandstand and classic green façade, Tiger Stadium was a beloved fixture for baseball fans. It witnessed numerous historic moments, including legendary performances by Tigers greats such as Ty Cobb, Hank Greenberg, and Al Kaline. Despite its demolition in 2008, Tiger Stadium remains an enduring symbol of Detroit's sports heritage, much like Windsor Arena does for Windsor, connecting the two cities through their shared passion for sports and their iconic, historic venues.
