\"Moody\'s Steam railroads, 1947, American and Foreign\" is subtitled \"Railroad Securities\" and was published by Moody\'s Investment Service of New York, NY. It has a total of 1502 white pages and two sections of blue pages, 35 and 101 pages long for a total of 1638 pages. The thirty five blue pages are in the beginning of the book and are labelled \"Moody\'s Bond Ratings\" while the center 101 blue pages are labelled \"Special Features Sections which consist of a separate Table of Contents and an \"Analytical Survey of the Railroads\".
The Introduction states, \"Moody\'s Railroad Manual is the most comprehensive reference book on railroads available to the investor. Full statistics showing financial and operating results are given, together with historical data, location and mileage, management and security descriptions. As an aid in in comparing results of one road with another, the principal earnings and capital items are given for the last ten years on a per mile basis. Freight traffic statistics are classified for the full ten-year period on the basis of tonnage, carloadings and revenue with group percentages shown in each case... Moody\'s Railroad Manual is designed primarily for the use of the investor in bonds and stocks. Because of the comprehensive information furnished, the Manual is also indispensable to sellers of securities and to the banking community generally, and yet by reason of the analytical and rating features, it is of even great value to the individual investor, trustee, institution, et., purchasing securities for investment.\" The information is good up to the time of going to press, August 27, 1947. This must be the ultimate of comprehensive data available about the 1947 state of railroad companies, the level of detail is amazing. Maps of each major railroad are also included.
The pictures show the front, back and spine of the hard cover followed by the title page, the list of railroad maps, the Table of Contents and seven sample white pages about every 200 pages. Next are front blue pages, the \"Moody\' Bond Ratings\" and Alphabetical Index page followed by the center of the book blue pages showing the Second Table of Contents and four example pages.

The collection includes the world famous SP 4449 Daylight locomotive, originally restored to pull the American Freedom Train in 1975-76. The magnificent SP&S 700 is also an operational 4-8-4 which came back to life in 1990. They are joined by their little sister, the OR&N197, a Pacific 4-6-2 which will steam up again in about 2 years. All three are located at the new Oregon Rail Heritage Center, a working engine house with a turntable, allowing public access to the locomotives.
