JOSEPH A. JACHIMCZYK, M.D., J.D., BTH. He was born on September 15, 1923 in Bridgeport, Connecticut and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, the son of Polish immigrants. He attended college at St. John's University, St. Louis University, and The University of Missouri. He divided his medical training between The University of Mississippi and The University of Tennessee, where he received his M.D. in 1948. He received his J.D. from Boston College in 1958 and his Bachelor of Theology from St. Thomas University in 1976. "Dr. Joe" was the Medical Examiner of Harris County from 1957 until his retirement in 1995. He held many academic appointments and hospital privileges at area medical, dental, and law schools and accredited hospitals. He was a member of numerous medical, legal, religious, and civic groups and a founding fellow of The Law Science Academy and The National Association of Medical Examiners. He has been a member of The State Bar of Texas since 1959, and was admitted to practice before The U.S. Supreme Court in 1979. He was certified by The American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Forensic Pathology. He enjoyed lecturing throughout the world and authoring a number of scientific papers. His most cherished privilege was to design and develop The Joseph A. Jachimczyk Forensic Center of Harris County. It is one of the finest scientific units in the world, and the building was named after him by The Commissioners Court. In 1975 he was ordained a permanent deacon for The Diocese of Galveston-Houston, and had also been a long time member of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
