CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL STADIUM

Cleveland Municipal Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium located on the shores of Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio. It served as the home venue for several professional sports teams over the years, including the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). The stadium was in operation from 1931 to 1996.

Municipal Stadium holds historical significance as it witnessed memorable moments in both baseball and football. It was a cavernous venue with a seating capacity that could exceed 80,000 for certain events.

Notable players from the Cleveland Indians who played at Municipal Stadium include:

Bob Feller: The Hall of Fame pitcher spent his entire career with the Indians and played a significant part of it at Municipal Stadium. Feller is considered one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history.

Larry Doby: The first African American player in the American League, Doby played for the Indians at Municipal Stadium and was a key figure in breaking the color barrier in the league.

Bob Lemon: Another Hall of Fame pitcher, Lemon had a distinguished career with the Indians, contributing to the team's success during his time at Municipal Stadium.

In addition to baseball, Municipal Stadium was the home of the Cleveland Browns, and it saw legendary NFL players don the orange and brown. Notable Browns players who played at Municipal Stadium include:

Jim Brown: Widely regarded as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, Brown played the majority of his career with the Browns and achieved numerous records at Municipal Stadium.

Otto Graham: A Hall of Fame quarterback, Graham led the Browns to multiple championships and played a significant portion of his career at Municipal Stadium.

While Municipal Stadium is no longer standing, its legacy lives on in the memories of fans who experienced the excitement of baseball and football within its walls. The Cleveland Browns moved to FirstEnergy Stadium, and the Cleveland Indians became the Cleveland Guardians, currently playing at Progressive Field.
