General Henri-Gratien Bertrand’s breeches and gloves

- c. 1812-1815

General Bertrand managed the Imperial household during Napoléon’s reign, and accompanied him into exile on Elba Island and later, St. Helena Island. He was the main executor of the Emperor’s will. Worn on ceremonial occasions, these breeches (or culottes) were part of his official uniform as Grand Marshal of the Palace.
