* Union troops (enemy) enter city
* From the capital of the Confederacy Not only is this a great Confederate newspaper, but it is from the capital of the Confederacy.Certainly the most significant content would be the breaking news report on page 2 headed: "Capture of New Orleans By The Enemy--Cotton and Public Stores Destroyed" which begins: "Official dispatches were received at the War Department, from General Lovell, yesterday announcing the capture by the enemy of New Orleans...dispaches state that the enemy's fleet had appeared in the harbour of New Orleans & had demanded the surrender of the city. General Lovell telegraphs that he refused to make the surrender. It appears, however, that he had no hesitation in evacuating the city..." with more. This significant event is the focus of the editorial on page 2, beginning: "The fall of New Orleans will resound through the world...it will swell the Yankee heart with a certainty of triumph too big for utterance...they believe the revolution near its close and expect the collapse of the Confederacy..." and much more.Other reports include: "The Forces About Huntsville, Alabama" "The War--Concentrate Our Resources" "Movements and Spirit of the War" "Another Yankee Canard--Another Intercepted Dispatch from Beauregard" "Yankee Reports of Affairs About Nashville, Tenn." "Who Are the Traitors?" "Yankee Sympathy for the Poor Negro" and much more.Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, minimal edge wear, very nice, clean condition. Please Note: All of our offerings are 100% authentic! We do not offer reprints or reproductions of any kind. They are guaranteed to be original!
Links to Archival Storage Options & Certificates of Authenticity Are Below! Historical reports may be beautifulor ugly, but they are always informative. While we rejoice in the beautiful (heroic, discovery, amazing feats, etc.), we at History's Newsstand also offer "the ugly" for we are determined to learn from the wrongs of the past - understanding, to do so, we must be willing to look these wrongs directly in the face and shout "NO MORE!". It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Women's Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree! Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction.
